The Lift Boy The Lift Boy is a coming of age story of a 24-year-old vagabond who is forced to work at a posh building in Mumbai as a Lift Boy when his bread-winning father falls ill. The 24-year-old protagonist, Raju Tawade has failed his final year engineering drawing exam subject for the fourth time due to which he has been in his final year for 2 years, but in his mind he already considers himself an engineer. Raju’s bread winning father Krishna suffers a heart attack and has been advised complete rest for a month. In order to support his family that comprises of his mom Laxmi & dad Krishna, Raju is forced to take over his fathers Lift operator job at Galaxy Apartments- a posh 6 storey building in the heart of Mumbai owned by Maureen D’Souza a fine Anglo-Indian lady who is an artist by profession. Maureen lost her beloved husband Collin D’Souza a year ago. She lives a solitary life, but when Raju begins work in the building she finds in him a new friend and purpose in life. Raju initially, resents his Lift Boy job but after a few days he enjoys his time at Galaxy Apartments and also finds a love interest in Princess Kapoor, a 21-year-old resident of the building who’s mother wants her to become a movie star. As time passes at Galaxy Apartments, Raju gets close to Maureen D’Souza and she even becomes his mentor and guide. She being an artist makes an effort to learn engineering drawing and teaches the boy the entire fundamentals of the subject with a fresh approach. This way Raju is for the first time fully prepared for his exam. Through this slice of life story, we see the protagonist Raju go through 4 phases- denial, acceptance, evolution & mastery. The film teaches us that life is like a Lift, sometimes it takes us up & sometimes it takes us down, depending on the buttons we press aka choices we make. We evolve, learn & grow based on those choices and throughout the story we see Raju discover life & himself based on the various choices he makes.
