Star Trek: Picard brought back Sir Patrick Stewart as the titular Starfleet legend, and at the same time saw various other The Next Generation stars return alongside him in recurring or guest roles. It wasn’t just a nostalgia ride, however, but boldly moved their characters into emotional places where they had never gone before. In season 1, we reunited with William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) and Data (Brent Spiner) – who met his final end in the season finale.
Obviously, fans are desperately hoping that more of the old Enterprise-D crew show up in season 2 and beyond. And thankfully, all the evidence is saying that it’s going to happen. Adding fuel to the fire, Stewart himself has revealed that he’s “very hopeful” that more of his former co-stars will feature on the series in time, but only if they can be treated in the same way as, say, Riker and Troi in episode 7, “Nepenthe.”
“In meetings when we talked about bringing in members of the Next Generation crew, that was one of the things I was most passionate about, which was not only should Picard have changed during the 18 years that had passed, but the same has to be applied to Counselor Troi, to Commander Riker, to whoever it is. And by the way, I am very hopeful we will see more of The Next Generation crew before we say goodbye to Picard. And that is just what they did, and there is no better example than the episode [“Nepenthe”].”
“Nepenthe” caught up with the married couple on the eponymous planet, where we discovered that the pair had retired from Starfleet after their son, Thaddeus, contracted a fatal illness, and settled on Nepenthe for his final few months. They now live there with young daughter Kestra. Riker got a chance to ride into battle one last time in the finale, though, when he led a Starfleet armada against the Romulans to save Jean-Luc’s hide.
So, which other TNG characters could be next? Well, it’s a fact that Whoopi Goldberg will be back as Guinan, as Stewart made a very public offer to her to appear on Picard. Meanwhile, LeVar Burton has admitted that he’s had talks to reprise Geordi LaForge. And more from Riker seems pretty likely, as well, according to Frakes.
Star Trek: Picard season 2 is currently being written remotely so it should end up arriving on CBS All Access sometime next year.

Shah Rukh Khan’s last film, Zero, released in December 2018 after which he went on a long sabbatical. He has been reading scripts and even shortlisted a few of them. Meanwhile, the names of a lot of filmmakers did the rounds with whom the superstar was supposedly working with. However, of late, it has come to light that SRK is working with blockbuster filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani in his next directorial flick. Recently, while answering a fan question, he also let out a strong hint that he has indeed given his nod to Rajkumar Hirani’s flick. And naturally, it led to a lot of excitement among fans.

While not much is known about the film and its subject, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learnt that for this venture, Rajkumar Hirani and his frequent collaborator writer Abhijat Joshi have been joined by Kanika Dhillon. She has become quite well known of late thanks to her work in films like Manmarziyaan (2018), Kedarnath (2018), Judgmentall Hai Kya (2019) and the web film Guilty (2020). Interestingly, in the beginning of her career, she had extensively worked with SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment. She worked as an assistant director on SRK’s 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om. She wrote the screenplay of Ra.One (2011) and additional screenplay of Always Kabhi Kabhi (2011). Rajkumar Hirani’s next hence marks Kanika’s reunion with Shah Rukh and Red Chillies Entertainment after almost 9 years.
A source close to the project says, “Kanika Dhillon has come on-board and she along with Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi are busy scripting the film. Kanika is mainly scripting while Rajkumar and Abhijat are helping her with inputs. They are hoping to finish in a month or two. The film was to go on floors in August but due to the lockdown, it seems that the shoot will be pushed ahead.”
Rajkumar Hirani’s last film, Sanju, released in 2018 and was based on the controversial life of actor Sanjay Dutt. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, this flick emerged as the biggest hit of that year, earning Rs. 342.53 crores. Hirani, in fact, holds the envious record of not giving a single flop as a director. The source assures, “His film with Shah Rukh Khan too seems to be shaping up well, at the writing stage. And Rajkumar-Abhijat-Kanika collaboration has added a lot to the script and it’ll be something to watch out for.”

The next season of The Mandalorian will also mark the first live-action appearance of Ahsoka Tano, this time played by Rosario Dawson, but can we expect her new sidekick to show up as well?
Since most of the content in the world of that galaxy far, far away doesn’t exactly follow a chronological pattern, it’s easy to get confused when trying to wrap your head around the continuity of everything. For instance, nowadays, fans are enjoying the final episodes of The Clone Wars, all of which have centered around Ahsoka in the last days of the Galactic Republic. But before the hit animated show got renewed for a seventh and final season, Ahsoka played a major role in Rebels, a show that took place before A New Hope.
Now, reports indicate that Jon Favreau wants to bring Ahsoka to live-action by introducing her in the second season of The Mandalorian. The last time we saw the former Jedi Padawan, she teamed up with Sabine Wren to go look for Ezra Bridger in the Unknown Regions. So, since Favreau’s show also takes place after the fall of the Empire, it seems likely that Mando and Baby Yoda will bump into Ahsoka and Sabine as they’re continuing their search for Ezra in the Outer Rim.
Of course, as neither Ezra nor Sabine have been confirmed to make a comeback, this is mere speculation at this point. Filoni might even decide to explore the pair’s journey in a spinoff series. In that case, The Mandalorian won’t necessarily address Sabine’s fate in the upcoming chapter.
Still, we’re just glad to finally see Ahsoka outside the animation spectrum. It’s true that The Rise of Skywalker has already acknowledged the character by including her voice cameo alongside the rest of the Jedi, but it doesn’t count until we finally see an actress in full costume and makeup as Snips.
Tell us, though, what other Star Wars characters do you wish to see in The Mandalorian season 2? As usual, sound off in the comments section below.
