Ewan McGregor Felt Embarrassed Lying About The Obi-Wan Kenobi Series
Kenobi: A Star Wars Story wasn’t to be, but the Jedi legend will live on thanks to Disney+.
Cast your mind back to the summer, when San Diego was playing host to its annual Comic-Con extravaganza, and you may recall an announcement from Disney and Lucasfilm that, yes, an Obi-Wan TV show was in the works. And yes, it’ll herald the long-anticipated return of Ewan McGregor as the honorable Jedi.
Turns out McGregor spent four years sitting on that secret, and it wasn’t exactly a picnic. You need only take a peek into the WGTC archives to realize that the Scottish actor has patiently solicited questions about a possible Obi-Wan reprisal for years, knowing full well that Lucasfilm was secretly plotting a comeback for his Jedi hero. But the Doctor Sleep star was sworn to secrecy, which left him feeling pretty embarrassed.
Here’s what he told Ellen guest host Howie Mandel:
It’s awkward because the studios and the franchises, they want to keep everything totally secret, of course, which I understand. But as the person being asked over and over and over again, ‘Are you? Would you do it again, would you do it again?’ And I’m already talking to them about it, but I can’t say that I am. So like for four years I was saying, ‘Well, I’d be happy to do it again if they — I’m just waiting for the call’ … It was embarrassing.
Frankly, we’re just happy that the Star Wars veteran is getting the chance to reprise his world-famous role. And the fact that Obi-Wan has been repackaged as a Disney+ series is a sign of the times – a sign that George Lucas himself predicted a long time ago, in a galaxy really rather close.
It’ll likely be on our screens late next year (or early 2021), long after The Mandalorian has helped jump-start this new era of Disney+. The latter series just dropped its final teaser trailer, in which you can see Pedro Pascal’s lawless bounty hunter wandering the galactic plains in search of… well, we’re not quite sure. Not yet, at least. Expect that one to debut November 12th.

The Anti-Monitor Arrives In New Crisis On Infinite Earths Set Pic
Shooting on “Crisis on Infinite Earths” has been going on for the past month now, and in that time we’ve got a lot of glimpses of the awesome hero team-ups that are to come in the Arrowverse’s big crossover yet. Including various Superman uniting, Team Arrow both present and future coming together and, of course, old super-friends Green Arrow and the Flash. But we haven’t seen much of the enemy that all these vigilantes are teaming up to fight: the Anti-Monitor.
Here’s a new set photo, though, which sees LaMonica Garrett in full costume as his fearsome cosmic character. We’ve previously got an official poster for the villain, which revealed his creepy pale, desiccated face, and here’s the proof that he looks just as sinister in person. For more shots of what appears to be a huge battle sequence between the heroes and their foe, follow the link below:
Garrett, of course, also plays the Monitor, who first appeared in last year’s “Elseworlds” event and has popped up across all the franchise’s shows for cameos since then. He’s not the happiest of souls but the Anti-Monitor is even worse. As the Monitor’s evil counterpart, he wishes only to destroy all reality. In the comics, he’s released into this dimension by the human scientist Pariah and in the Arrowverse version, Pariah will be another doppelganger of Harrison Wells.
It seems that production has now reached a huge, ambitious set piece in which the assembled heroes take on the Anti-Monitor together. The cast and their stunt doubles were captured filming a scene last week where everyone from Superman to Dreamer was charging into battle. This looks like it’s for the fifth and final installment of the crossover, the Legends of Tomorrow season opener, which airs January 14th. “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” meanwhile, kicks off December 8th on The CW.

The Best Horror Movies To Stream This Halloween
How’s it going, boils, ghouls, and non-binary werewolves? I certainly hope this year’s Halloween season hasn’t spooked ya to death! I kind of like taking a break from the real-world horrors currently ongoing and replacing them with generous amounts of red corn syrup and even cornier dialogue. I can’t be the only one, right?
To celebrate, I’ve complied a list of three stellar horror flicks from the Big Three streaming outlets (Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime) for your viewing pleasure. I picked some personal favorites that, if you’re stuck endlessly scrolling or your significant other can’t make a decision, could hopefully help put you into a happier, spookier place.
And no, the original Halloween is not streaming anywhere. Believe me…

Lucasfilm Developing Live-Action Star Wars Series For Thrawn
The advent of Disney Plus means Lucasfilm can create a wide range of new big budget live-action Star Wars content exclusively for TV. The Mandalorian is right around the corner, and it’ll soon be joined by a procession of other small screen series that can fill in gaps in the saga’s timeline that have yet to be touched on in the movies. For instance, the studio might just be working on a show for one of the most notorious SW villains not from the films.
According to our sources – the same ones who told us Ewan McGregor was returning as Obi-Wan back in May, and that Rey and Palpatine have a “special connection” in Rise, which the reliable Making Star Wars recently confirmed – Lucasfilm is developing a series all about Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Originally created as part of the now-defunct Legends universe, the character has previously been brought into modern canon in Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels animated series, where he was voiced by Sherlock star Lars Mikkelsen. We Got This Covered has heard that this Disney Plus project would feature Thrawn’s live-action debut, but as of yet, it’s unclear who’d play him.

What we do know is that the show is set to be based on Heir to the Empire, the 1991 novel by Timothy Zahn which served as the character’s first appearance and the first installment in the Thrawn trilogy. As the title suggests, it’s set five years after the fall of the Empire, with Thrawn regrouping leftover Imperial forces in an attempt to squash the fledgling new Republic.
Presumably, the book would be the basis of the first season or so with elements from the two sequels introduced if the show continued past its debut run. Given that The Mandalorian takes place at a similar point in Star Wars history, it’s possible some crossover could happen between the two. Maybe the Thrawn series will even be set up in season 1 of the Pedro Pascal-starring production? Time will tell, but as soon as we learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Paul Feig Says He’s Still Down To Make Another Ghostbusters
Hollywood has always looked to past success stories for inspiration. As such, certain films have a very cyclical life. For instance, A Star Is Born has been remade three times, with the original being produced in 1937. But in the last twenty years or so, it’s fair to say that the major studios have begun to over rely on this practice, often remaking or rebooting films that didn’t need it. One of the most famous recent misfires is 2016’s Ghostbusters.
That film saw director Paul Feig attempt to reinvigorate the fan favorite series for a new generation. However, the project had nothing if not a rocky road. Audiences seemed to be skeptical from the outset and were extremely critical of every decision, especially the choice to gender swap the main characters.
Internet trolls and obstinate fanboys latched onto that announcement and decried that the film was making a mockery of their childhood. The movie rode the wave of negative buzz right into its release, too, where it ended up with a very underwhelming box office haul, earning barely $200 million.
The reboot itself wasn’t bad by any means, but it couldn’t live up to the unrealistic expectations set up for it, nor could it eclipse the shadow of its predecessors. Now, the franchise is moving forward, with a new iteration due out in 2020, featuring the original cast and helmed by Jason Reitman.
However, there are some who aren’t ready to leave the past where it is. Recently, Paul Feig noted during an interview that he’d be willing to revisit the franchise, stating:
I would actually make another Ghostbusters, if anybody ever wanted it, because I loved that world. I was like a kid in a candy store.
He was quick to point out that the odds of this ever coming to pass are slim, mainly because of the upcoming mainline continuation, but he’s nonetheless quite proud of his version, further commenting:
I mean, we’ll find out when Jason’s movie comes out. If that goes through the roof, I’ll go: ‘Sure, I guess I made a mistake doing a reboot.’ But I will never apologize for it because I’m very proud of the movie.
Regardless of anyone’s views, Feig is right to fondly remember his film. There were a lot of interesting touches and it was a good attempt. But again, there are some things that are just so dear to the public consciousness that they shouldn’t be changed too drastically. It’s likely a good thing then that Sony abandoned the reboot and shifted back to the characters from the original Ghostbusters.
