There is no denying the strong love that exists between Canadians and Casinos. And especially now with the steady rise of casino online in Canada, the bond seems to be even more solid than ever. In this article weâ€
ll take a look at some of the most popular actors in casino movies that are considered to have had a great influence on the Canadian gambling or casino culture.
James Caan
The turning point was when he appeared as Sonny Corleone in “The Godfather (1972)” movie. Ever since, he has been regularly typecast as a soft-hearted and hardened character. And on several occasions, the roles played by him have, in a way, been rooted into the gambling genre. He went on to take the leading role as Ed Deline (a casino magnate) in a TV series titled “Las Vegas”, however, it was his role as Axel Freed in “The Gambler” that truly earned him his identity as a popular casino actor.
Paul Newman
He is widely regarded to be one of the greatest actors to have appeared on the silver screens and deservedly so. Paul Newman acted in quite a bunch of gambling and casino films. The movies include “The Hustler” (1961) and its sequel “The Color of Money” (1986) where he played the role of the famous “Fast Eddie” Felson as well as “The Sting” (1973) as Henry Gondorff.
Matt Damon
The Oscar-winning actor is, without a doubt, one of the most popular actors in Hollywood when it comes to the gambling genre. His most famous role came in the movie “Rounders” (1998) as Mike McDermott. He also played an important role in the Oceanâ€
s franchise which includes Oceanâ€
s Eleven (2001) and itâ€
s sequels Oceanâ€
s Twelve (2004), Oceanâ€
s Thirteen (2007) as well as the Oceanâ€
s Eight (2018). Heâ€
s passion for gambling away from the cameras has definitely played a huge role in his perfect execution of his roles in these classics.
James Woods
He may be better recognized for his cameo audio roles in cartoons like “Family Guy” and “The Simpsons”. However, he has also played significant roles in a number of gambling movies including but not limited to “The Gambler” (1974), “Diggstown” (1992) as well as “Casino” (1995).

With a title that asks its audience to hold on tightly, there’s not too much to wrap your arms around with Don’t Let Go. But what’s in reach of the audience’s grasp is entertaining enough that it’s not a total write off.
He did something about it, though.
Han Solo was an inspiration for Pedro Pascal when it came to The Mandalorian, and Han wasn't the only one.
The sixth season of The Flash is just around the corner, and with Arrow coming to an end this year, it will soon become the oldest series in the Arrowverse (Flashverse?). Before that happens, though, Warner Bros. are set to release season 5 on Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow and are celebrating the launch with a deleted scene from the boxset. The scene comes from episode four of the season, “All Doll’d Up,” wherein Central City is terrorized by Rag Doll, an especially creepy villain able to manipulate his body into tight spaces.
The clip, which you can see above courtesy of Screen Rant, has Iris following up with Rag Doll’s mother about his break-in to her home and theft of personal artefacts. While the scene in question doesn’t really add much to the episode or the season as a whole, it’s just part of a host of special features expanding on season 5.
In the most recent run, Team Flash took on Cicada and a mystery spinning out from Nora, Barry and Iris’ fully grown speedster daughter from the future. The Blu-ray and DVD release also comes with extras including a now-obligatory gag reel, as well as featurettes on Killer Frost and the “Elseworlds” crossover event.
In terms of season 6, we already know that The Flash‘s main story arc will be significantly affected by the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event, and that there’ll be return appearances for Godspeed, a new Multiverse version of Harrison Wells, and the introduction of a new villain in Dr. Ramsey Rosso, otherwise known as Bloodwork. Furthermore, Wally West will be back to join Team Flash, most likely as part of the “Crisis,” but also to tackle an as-yet-unknown Big Bad for the season.
The Flash season 5 Blu-Ray and DVD will be available on August 27th, which should provide fans enough time to catch up with its twenty-two episodes before season 6 reaches us via The CW on Tuesday, October 8th.

Could this new chapter of the MCU have some consequences?
However, now the release date of this film has finally been locked. This slice-of-life flick will be releasing in the week of the festival of lights, Diwali, that is, on October 25. A source says, “A meeting took place some time back between the team of Maddock Films and its other partners Jio Studios and AAA Films. They realized that Diwali is an ideal time to bring this film. The mood at that time is upbeat and Made In China will just be the right film that viewers would want to see.”
Diwali being a prime festival, a big film has already reserved the slot – Housefull 4. It is a part of a popular comedy franchise and this time, the scale has been upped as it has double role, Baahubali-style period drama and moreover, it’ll be released in 3D. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Farhad Samji, the film features Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hegde in leading roles. The source continues, “Housefull 4 is one of the biggest films of recent times in all respects. But Diwali is also a huge festival and two films can easily co-exist. Made In China is a reasonably budgeted fare and it can manage to sustain and excel even in limited screens.”
Apart from Made In China and Housefull 4, the third film to release on Diwali is Saand Ki Aankh. A trade source observes, “For most viewers, Housefull 4 will be the first choice while Made In China will be the second choice. In such a scenario, Saand Ki Aankh will be crushed. There’s no doubt that it seems interesting. But it will be the last choice for viewers. The star cast, comprising of Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, is praiseworthy but are not big enough to pull viewers, especially when they are playing 80-year-olds and on top of that, there are two far more exciting flicks releasing on the same day. It’s better if its makers push the film to a later date. Even if it does release on Diwali, it’ll get very less screens.”
Made In China marks the directorial debut of Mikhil Musale in Bollywood. Rajkummar Rao plays a struggling Gujarati businessman and the flick is about his bizarre journey to become a successful entrepreneur. Mouni Roy plays his wife and by her own admission essays the part of the ‘Gujarati hottie’ who pushes her husband to go to China to expand his business, leading to hilarious results. Sumeet Vyas plays a character with grey shades. The film also features Boman Irani and Abhishek Banerjee in supporting roles.
Avengers: Endgame, as the final installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s decade-spanning, 22-movie Infinity Saga, faced a delicate balancing act in tying up so many loose story threads and character arcs from across the MCU while also delivering the epic blockbuster spectacle that fans have come to expect from the franchise. Obviously, though, the Russo brothers managed to pull it off, with Endgame going on to become the highest-grossing movie in history for good measure.
The climax of Endgame also saw the MCU lose its biggest star as Robert Downey Jr. ended his tenure as Tony Stark by sacrificing himself to save the universe from Thanos. For over a decade, the actor had essentially been the poster boy of the whole franchise, with Iron Man acting as the studio’s flagship character. This marked a huge loss for the MCU, and was further proof that Endgame would be a definitive end to the Infinity Saga.
Not only did Iron Man making the ultimate sacrifice bring the character’s journey full circle on the big screen though, but it also had a similar effect on Downey Jr., as co-director Joe Russo recently revealed that the actor shot his final scene for Endgame in the same building that he had first auditioned for the role over ten years ago.
“The stage that we shot it on was next door to where Robert did his original screen-test for Iron Man. So, it really did come full circle for him which made it very emotional. The day we finished that, with that being the last line, closing the book, closing the cover on the book, and it started a stage away and ended on this stage, I think was really resonant for him.”
It’s easy to forget that casting Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man was seen by many as a huge risk at the time, but the actor’s work as Tony Stark has both created one of popular culture’s biggest icons and made him one of the highest-paid actors on the planet. Given how closely he’s become associated with the character, Downey Jr. shooting his final scene in Avengers: Endgame in the place where his journey in the MCU first started marked a fitting end for the franchise’s biggest name.
