Titans Rumored To Be Dark, Violent, Gritty And Full Of F-Bombs

Titans Rumored To Be Dark, Violent, Gritty And Full Of F-Bombs

The newly announced DC Universe streaming service promises fans new shows, classic movies, beloved comics and apparently, some F-bombs!

That’s right, according to a new rumor, DC may be aiming for a more mature/adult audience here and will be lathering Titans, the flagship show for the service, with expletives. Among other things, the series is said to include “multiple f-bombs and s-bombs along with other swear-words, bone snaps, people being shot, burned, and mangled.” Not only that, but overall, it’ll be a “departure from the more joyful tone that many associate with the group.”

So essentially, it’ll be an external manifestation of what I feel when I’m watching Teen Titans Go!

Of course, this is just a rumor for now, but it does seem to line up with the first official photo of Robin (played by Brenton Thwaites) in full costume from the series. Released earlier this week, he appeared to be battered, bruised and bloodied, with a black and barren palate that would make Zack Snyder say “yeesh.”

Considering that Titans seems to be a key component of the service’s opening salvo, its apparent tone may be a reflection of the DC Universe’s other offerings, too. I mean, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing and Harley Quinn in their purest iterations aren’t the most child-friendly properties that DC has in their arsenal and a more mature tone is almost necessary for an appropriate interpretation of their stories.

Feel free to comment below on your take on these developments but frankly, I can’t wait. There’s an embarrassment of riches right now when it comes to superhero media but the one thing that the genre’s relatively lacking is gritty, grounded and adult shows. The engineers of the DC Universe have noticed this void and may be aiming to carve a niche for themselves in this regard, which is sure to drum-up excitement ahead of launch.

RACE 3 MOVIE REVIEW

RACE 3 MOVIE REVIEW

Critic's Rating: 2/5
Race 3 Story: The Singh family comprises of Shamsher (Anil Kapoor) his step-son Sikandar (Salman Khan), twins Suraj (Saqib Saleem) and Sanjana (Daisy Shah). They run a business of illegal arms and trade with the help of their friend Yash (Bobby Deol). Things get dramatic when Jessica (Jacqueline Fernandez) meets Sikandar and the family ties are strained under each character’s ulterior motives.

Race 3 Review:
The Race franchise is known for its excessively stylized characters and high-octane action. These films showcase expensive cars and fancy set pieces, they have everything to please the an action movie buff and James Bond fans. ‘Race 3’ puts the pedal to the metal when it comes to making stylish statements. But as it zooms ahead in style, the substance is left behind in a cloud of dust.

This film is about a rich family dealing with a lot of double crossing and scheming, as you’d expect from a film of this franchise. The Singh family is executing a high stake heist, where they have to steal a hard disk from a bank, so the setup looks like it's going to have a lot of thrills and action. But the generous dose of action never translates into any serious thrills because the story is so flimsy. To say that the film has a wafer thin plot is an understatement. Unlike the action, the script lacks any real punch as the story does not engage the viewer at all. Trailer of the film had sparked off a bevy of memes on social media and when you watch the film you realise there are more such dialogues like, ‘Our business is our business, none of your business’ and that makes you wonder what the writers were thinking.

What redeems the tissue-thin plot is the larger-than-life action sequences. You have it all - car crashes, explosions, combats, cat-fights and wingsuit diving stunts. Yes, there's lot of smoke and fire, but no real steam - in the story or the performances. Most of the action scenes are in slo-mo, meant to heighten the drama and thrill obviously, but it often ends up making the scene a tedious watch. The best directed parts of the film are the songs, which look like elaborately designed music videos. The movie is mounted on a lavish canvas, and shot on some beautiful locales, but none of that holds your attention for more than a few minutes. It’s a visual delight to see a range of super cars in action, glamorous girls throwing kicks and punches, and of course, fans will relish the sight of Salman Khan and Bobby Deol ripping their shirts off to flaunt their well-greased and chiseled bodies.

There’s a star studded cast on offer so the fans will have plenty of moments to cheer for their favourite stars. Salman Khan leads the pack with the main role, and while he’s great with the action and the style, the character has very little depth. Anil Kapoor plays the father figure of the Singh family with ease. Bobby Deol and Daisy Shah are at their stylish best, too. Jacqueline Fernandez and Saqib Saleem look fantastic as well. ‘Race 3’ will work for Salman fans the most, as bhai kicks and punches with gusto.

THE INCREDIBLES 2 MOVIE REVIEW

Critic's Rating: 4.0/5
Incredibles 2 Story: Picking up after the events of ‘The Incredibles’ (2004), the Parr family must deal with a new set of problems brought on by a new super-villain.

Incredibles 2 Review: Although they saved the city of Metroville, superheroes are still decommissioned. After their home was destroyed, the Parr family is given a new lease of life when they’re approached by wealthy siblings Winston (Bob Odenkirk) and Evelyn Deavor (Catherine Keener). Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) is tasked with being the new face of superheroes in the hopes of restoring their legal status. To support her, Mr Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) takes on the responsibility of looking after the kids at home, which proves to be quite the handful. To make matters worse, the mind-controlling villain Screenslaver threatens the city.

When you consider the rapid-fire rate of superhero movies in today’s comic book franchise-driven landscape, it’s a surprise that this sequel took 14 years to make. Picking up right after the events of its prequel – the film wastes little time getting back into its quick-paced groove. Even though an entire generation has grown up exploring various aspects of superhero storytelling, ‘Incredibles 2’ manages to have a relatively fresh and unique perspective. Elastigirl and Mr Incredible are duty-bound to reverse the roles they typically play within the family, resulting in hilarious, yet thought-provoking situations. Additionally, the motivations of the ‘bad guy’ go far beyond being a generic villain with dreams of world domination.

This drives the film into engaging narrative territories that would undoubtedly appeal to older audiences. But there’s slapstick and eye-candy for younger kids to enjoy, peppered with ample comedy for all ages. All the voice acting is strong, but the MVP turns out to be the one with the least amount of dialogue – Jack-Jack, who absolutely steals the show. The fact that visual effects have developed so much over the past fourteen years only adds to the immersive experience, as each character and eye-popping action is brought to life in stunning animation. Writer & director Brad Bird believed in waiting for the right story to tell, and that decision certainly pays off in more ways than one as ‘Incredibles 2’ proves to be an Incredible amount of fun!
